In the 2025 Milan Design Week, Ligne Roset's "Back to the Shape" exhibition brought back the sculptural essence, free form, and avant-garde spirit of the 70-80s design golden age.

This era's works broke free from the traditional constraints of furniture functionality, transforming everyday items like sofas and side cabinets into spatial art pieces. The curator, Ligne Roset, even reinterpreted classics from a suspended perspective, echoing the 70s designers' exploration of "environmental art" — furniture as not just a tool but a sculpture that shapes the space's atmosphere.

Two Classic Reissues Honoring the Golden Age of Design:

Sandra Sofa

Designed by Annie Hiéronimus

The newly remastered Sandra sofa is made entirely of foam, faithfully continuing the original's innovative spirit. Its soft, embracing curves blend simplicity with elegance, making it adaptable to any interior style. The design emphasizes the combination of ergonomics and artistry, becoming a model of the "free form" aesthetics of the time.

Kashima Sofa

Designed by Michel Ducaroy

The Kashima sofa draws inspiration from the English Chesterfield sofa and redefines comfort with its all-foam structure and nest-like wrapping sensation. A combination of four different foam densities ensures a soft and durable sitting experience. Its wide and thick design, both a continuation of retro aesthetics and a response to modern minimalism.

In addition, in the dialogue between tradition and modernity, designer Sebastian Herkner brought the Scene side cabinet to the exhibition, continuing his exploration of the fusion of craft and materials.

"Back to the Shape" is not only a tribute to classic design but also a discussion about the essence of design — in an era dominated by algorithms and AI, the 'handmade warmth' and 'avant-garde spirit' of the 70-80s designers still hold significant insights. These works remind us that true innovation lies in balancing traditional wisdom with future imagination.
